All Christians and men of good will are called today to fight not only for the abolition of the death penalty, whether legal or illegal, and in all of its forms, but also to improve prison conditions, out of respect for the human dignity of persons deprived of their liberty." |
The Catholic Church teaches that all life matters therefore the death penalty is not accepted.“The Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society” (Life and Dignity if the Human Person 1). The Catholic Church also believes and teaches that no matter how heinous the crime, if society can protect itself without ending a human life, it should do so and not take the lives of other humans.
